| Improving Access to Information Resources Улучшение доступа к информационным ресурсам | The Department of Public Heath and Management from The University of Medicine and Pharmacy has more than 20 fast computers for its 10 employees. That’s why resident doctors in Public Health, Epidemiology or Hygiene are allowed to use them and to access the internet through a high speed, broadband access (more than 4 Mbps). The students of the Master programme in Public Health and Management have also access to the internet, as well as to the e-learning platform. It contains multimedia XML based teaching materials, links to resources, newsgroups, an internal email system and a much debated forum. These master students that can access all the department facilities are mostly clinicians from different fields of medical profession, but also non-medical professionals. |

| Grants and Sustainability Гранты и самофинансирование | Over the last 10 years, the Department applied and received several grants, helping first to create the network (1993 - Tempus programme), then to upgrade and enlarge the existing LAN (AIHA, World Bank in 2000). The monthly INTERNET connection is paid by the University administration within an agreement with the Ministry of Education. University is also covering the costs of LAN maintenance. |
| Databases and Information Systems Базы данных и информационные системы | The Department of Public Heath and Management has setup a Local Area Network (LAN) that includes two major access points: one in the computers room in the department, and one in the Bucharest University County Hospital. The users have the benefits of LAN use and the surgeons and public health specialist are encouraged to freely exchange ideas and work. Being a teaching medical unit, the Department has not the technical resources and skills to develop information systems or large databases. |

Developments Другие родственные виды деятельности | The Department of Public Heath and Management has setup an own webpage that hosts the latest activities of its members and information about the courses available and the latest news. Also, the e-learning platform is up and has more than 60 registered users so far, but it also provides basic access through a guest type user. The platform hosts 15 chapters of courses and numerous presentations. The courses are multimedia incorporating charts and sound and movie clips. The content is XML based and can be easily reused in developing other materials. There is also the possibility of reading the materials off-line for some privileged accounts. |
