LRC Network Web Site

Dear all!
Workers of the Centre for learning and educational resourses of Stavropol Medical Academy developed 3 projects that may greatly influence medical practice in our organizations. All of them were developed after discussion about problems faced by info-coordinators and doctors. We had discussion at the conference and workshop that were held in Almaty in September 2005.
The second project - "United file retrieval system of LRC Association" (free access database project) (description is attached). The project was approved in principle by chief managers of LRC Association Project. We invite everyone to a wide discussion of the project. Decision about the final characteristics of this project will be taken o­n the basis of consensus of association members.

Discussion will be carried out between all members of the LRC Association (lrc@mail.aiha.com). Please send your comments, proposals and criticism to the mailing list of the LRC Association. One of the dominant problems in Medicine is a deficit of the high-quality information. At the present time the priority of sources of information changes: books and magazines lose its position, and digital sources of information exercise leadership. Leading medical magazines are published in two ways: printed and electronic. But some journals are produced in the electronic form o­nly, and access to these resources is provided by Internet. The most LRCs has limited access to biomedical journals that needed subscription. It leads to difficuties in investigational work of LRC’s staff, and reduce production and effectiveness of LRC.

We suggest the project of realization of the mutually beneficial collaboration between members of LRC and other organizations.

The aim of creation foregoing project lies in the improvement of access to leading medical publications o­n mutually beneficial conditions. As a consequence, there is the improvement of the process of information by the questions of scientifically based medical practice, the process of organization of medical work and the other questions in Medicine.

For achievement this introduced purpose, which is set forth below we pose next problems:

1. Bridging between members of LRC and other organizations, which possess the access to leading medical publications, and attainment of the agreement about the collaboration.
2. Naming of the curator of the each participant organizations.
3. Creation of the electronic data base which contains the list of participant members, the curator of the project from each organization, and the list of publications are known for each member and they have access to it.

For realization of the first task we plan to get into a contact with every member of LRC with the help of e-mail. The aim of this project and terms for the entrance to it will be described in e-letter. Later, in open forum in Internet there is a need to discuss about all advantages and disadvantages of the project. We suggest locating Forum and all information about the project in official site of Association LRC. The other organizations can join to us o­n mutually beneficial conditions.

Then, every member of the project gives data about responsible person (in future named curator), and information about access to medical resources.

We suggest locating data about participants of the project o­n this site (official site of Association LRC). Access to data will be available o­nly after password verification. Password will be sent to all participants. After password verification users have opportunity to see following information:

• The name of the participant’s organization.
• Data about curator of the project from that organization.
• Available method contact with curator (e-mail).
• The list of international medical journals, which this organization can use.

Here is the example of how system should work. In necessity of the full-text version of the medical journal or another medical resources the user find organization, which has the essential access in the database. After that you should write a letter to the coordinator of the indicated organization with the inquiry for the essential information. The coordinator gets the letter & send information according to the inquiry.

Suggested project will permit to improve the contact between the CUR, unite resources for searching the demanded medical information in the Internet.
